Invited Talk: Reinventing Discovery: Accelerating Science in the Age of Artificial Super-Intelligence

Abstract: Frontier AI models have crossed a threshold. They no longer merely assist scientists, but now co-design not only which questions to pursue, but how to pursue them. This keynote examines how we can accelerate scientific discovery using these advanced models. Drawing an analogy to Amdahl’s Law, we’ll see how extraordinary speed-ups in hypothesis generation, simulation, and data interpretation collide with bottlenecks in chemistry, fabrication, and field observation, forcing a strategic rebalancing of the entire research pipeline. We’ll explore embedding human values in autonomous goal setting, preserving trust and reproducibility amid synthetic data, and redesigning the workforce to align automated cognition with irreplaceable human judgment. Last, we’ll introduce high-level considerations and concrete actions to collectively explore how we can navigate this rapidly changing landscape.
