Abstract: Future supercomputers must be designed not only for raw speed but also for efficiency, scalability, and fitness to scientific and AI-driven workloads. Quantitative codesign provides a systematic way to achieve this by linking workload characterization, performance modeling, and hardware–software trade-offs.
This talk will outline the principles of quantitative codesign and show how metrics such as time-to-solution, energy, and numerical accuracy guide choices in processors, memory, interconnects, and software. Unfortunately, we have not had a real co-design baked into our supercomputers.
