A Software Framework for Neuromorphic Computing

Workshop: 7th International Workshop on Emerging Parallel Distributed Runtime Systems and Middleware

Authors: Catherine Schuman (University of Tennessee, Knoxville)

Abstract: Neuromorphic computing is a popular technology for the future of computing. Much of the focus in neuromorphic computing research and development has focused on new architectures, devices, and materials, rather than in the software, algorithms, and applications of these systems. In this talk, I will overview the field of neuromorphic computing with a particular focus on challenges and opportunities in using neuromorphic computers as co-processors, as well as the current state of software for neuromorphic computing hardware systems. I will discuss neuromorphic applications for both machine learning and non-machine learning use cases.
