Dori: User Centered HPC for Data Intensive Computing

Workshop: HUST-25: 12th International Workshop on HPC User Support Tools

Authors: Georg Rath (Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory)

Abstract: Dori has been the Joint Genome Institute's (JGI) primary high-performance-computing cluster since 2022. It has been serving a wide array of research and production workloads, processing petabytes of data. This paper presents the challenges of running a mixed production/research cluster, a governance and communications model that enables addressing user needs, and a suite of software tools that have been developed to address the diverse set of requirements that result from a user base that manages and processes large amounts of data.
